Sometimes if my thoughts wander to a place I don't want them to go, I hold my breath and it brings me back.
Now this personal experience is not the same as reliving a past trauma, but the method is meant for those who have mental/emotional relapse.
That said, it might not be a cure all, but if you find yourself "breaking down" hold your breath for a few moments and it can focus your thoughts to necessary bodily functions.
Maybe you already have heard of this, but I wanted to share in case you haven't. It's very effective for me.
